Feedback

2025 – December

A 2025 mom:

I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you for all your help with Nicholas’ Afrikaans lessons – he really has improved so much. His marks improved from low 50s to high 60s in the limited time you had! You have been amazing!!

A Grade 11 learner:

A heartfelt thank you, Mrs. Delport.
As an English-speaking student, I was amazed by your patience and dedication when teaching me to master Afrikaans. You made me feel at ease, no pressure, just encouragement. You helped me grow confident speaking and writing, even with mistakes.
You went above and beyond, preparing me for upcoming exams. Thank you for making it approachable.
Baie dankie, Mevrou Delport, for your warmth and passion teaching me the Afrikaans language. I highly recommend Mrs. Elriena Delport’s Afrikaans tutoring classes.

A 2025 parent:

It has been wonderful to see Tharisha grow and develop under your guidance, and your dedication and encouragement as her tutor have clearly made a significant impact.  Your professionalism, patience, and inspiring approach to teaching have made a real difference to Eden’s learning experience.  Thank you again for your commitment and support over the years. Your encouragement and expertise have been invaluable. Tharisha was awarded best Matric learner in Afrikaans!

Tharisha, 2025 Matric:

I just wanted to say: Thank you for the incredible years we had together. Not only did you help me understand Afrikaans better but you inspired a love for both the language and the culture within me, so thank you very much for being an incredible teacher, a wonderful person and for bringing so much joy into my life each week ❤️ PS: I got 82%!

2025 Parents:

The work that you have done with Samantha over the last 18 months or so was incredible and it is apparent in the marks that she is getting in her Afrikaans exams, and Samantha always speaks about you with such fondness. From all of us, a very big thank you and we appreciate the work that you have done with and for Samantha!

A 2025 mom:

I wish I could write more eloquently!!  Here are a few lines – but they don’t give justice to a remarkable lady who is so precious to us! I am truly grateful that we found Elriena at the beginning of 2022. My daughter’s dismal marks have improved beyond my expectation.  More importantly – Elriena’s kindness, patience and encouragement has been a source of inspiration for both my daughter and me.  Thank you, Elriena.  No words are adequate to express our gratitude.

The above mom’s daughter:

Thank you so much Elriena for all your help and encouragement throughout the last few years!

2025 parents:

Daquan is very happy when he knows he is seeing Elriena, she is very close to his heart. Thank you for being you and being who you are to him. This year has been a challenge for him with a sudden loss but he always has so much fun and how something simple with Elriena makes the most special moments for him like helping make a sandwich. Thank you for making him look forward to learning Afrikaans, he doesn’t only want to make himself or his parents proud, but he really wants her to be proud as well. When he used to get bad marks for Afrikaans, it was one of those things, but now, he cares! He gets sad because he knows how much goes into it. Daquan in term 2 passed Afrikaans!

Elriena, I don’t have many more words than thank you from the bottom of my heart. For trying, for motivating, for researching and just for being you.

2023 – December

A 2023 Matric:

I find it hard to put into words and explain just what an amazing person and tutor mevrou Delport truly is. I have had her assistance since before I started high school and now that I’ve written my finals, looking back I highly doubt I could have made it without her. She makes it a point to get to know her students and cares for them. She will help you not only improve your Afrikaans marks but also grow a deeper understanding and respect for the language.

Mevrou Delport is a fantastic and patient tutor who is dedicated and committed to those she tutors. I would recommend her in a heartbeat to anyone looking to improve in the subject. From helping with the basics, to doing her own research, and even going out of her way to get and go through past papers, I’ve never met someone more willing to try and do their utmost best to help a student in every way imaginable. I can guaranty by the end of your Afrikaans journey you will be grateful to have had her in your life.

A 2017 Matric looking 6 years back:

I was recommended to Mevrou Delport by my school at the end of 2012 and started seeing her in 2013 when I started Grade 8. I had struggled with Afrikaans throughout primary school, somehow miraculously passing Grade 7 by a percent or two and being allowed to proceed to high school. I had little to no idea how to speak, read or write Afrikaans and honestly don’t know how I passed. Mevrou Delport was the light at the end of the tunnel. Without her there is no way I would have gotten through high school, let alone gone from barely scraping through in a language I didn’t understand with low 40s to getting 70s by the end of my Matric year.

She is one of the best and kindest people I know with a real passion for the Afrikaans language and interest in her students. She sees each student as an individual who she cares for and takes pride in. Our lessons were always fun and tailored to my learning needs. I have been to other tutors, and I have to say that while other tutors see their students as another client with no real investment in their lives or marks, Mevrou Delport is the complete opposite and she becomes like family.

One of the hardest things I had to do when I finished Grade 12 was say goodbye to her and our regular lessons. In fact, Mevrou Delport was such a blessing in my life in the way that she helped me learn Afrikaans and overcome a challenge I was sure that I would never be able to pass that I became a teacher myself. I aspire to be the type of educator with the same passion for teaching and love for my students that Mevrou Delport has for hers and help my students who are struggling with a kind and gentle hand.

I graduated matric in 2017 and 6 years later I am still in contact with her, and she takes an active interest in my life and pride in my accomplishments. I am overjoyed to write this recommendation letter so more students who are struggling with Afrikaans can find the lifeline that is Mevrou Delport. If you are looking for an Afrikaans tutor then look no further, Mevrou Delport is one of the very best tutors around and is guaranteed to raise your marks dramatically if you put in the same time and effort she does.

Another 2023 Matric:

Thank you for all your support and help – I couldn’t have done it without you!

And another:

Thank you so much ma’am! I really could not have done it without you!

A 2023 Parent:

Thank you for teaching Eden during the latter half of 2023.  Since starting lessons with you, her interest in and enjoyment for Afrikaans has improved and she is looking forward to continuing in 2024.

A 2023 Grade 10 Learner:

“I have only had lessons from Mevrou Delport for a few months. Through these months she was very patient with me and helped me to improve on some of my weak points. My marks improved from 66% to 70%. She is a lovely, kind lady who cares for her students and always makes my lessons so memorable.”

2022 – January

A 2021 Matric:

Hi Mevrou, thanks so much for your help last year – I went from the sixties to now seventies and hopefully eighties after remarking. I got 78 any hopefully after ranking I’ll get 80%. Kind regards, Rohan

Another 2021 Matric:

Liewe Mevrou, I am very pleased with my final Afrikaans mark  – I got 77%! It wouldn’t have been possible without your help, guidance, motivation and insight over the last 5 years. Your kind and warm approach made me feel so much more at ease when doing Afrikaans. Thank you for everything! I’m off to Tukkies now to study Medicine but you’ll always have a special place in my heart!

And yet another:

Hello Mevrou, Thank you so much for all the help over the years. My final Afrikaans mark was 73%, which I’m super happy with and a far cry from the 40s I had when starting with your lessons in Grade 10! Thank you so much!

2021 – December

A past pupil:

There are simply no words (in English or Afrikaans) to describe what an absolutely phenomenal Afrikaans Tutor as well as human being Elriena is. I desperately came to Elriena in the middle of my Matric year as I had a disaster with a previous tutor which caused my matric portfolio mark to be extremely low. Through working with Elriena for just 6 months, I achieved over 90% for both my Afrikaans final papers. The sooner you send your child to Elriena the better, they will be guided in the best direction and will undoubtedly attain the best results possible. I matriculated in 2013 and to this day I retain a wonderful personal relationship with her and I have retained all the Afrikaans that she taught me. You will not regret using Elriena’s services, she is so much more than just a teacher, she cares so deeply about every single one of her students and will always go above and beyond for them.

A 2021 Matric:

I found your lessons really beneficial. You were extremely patient with me and helped me to improve on my weak points. You did this constantly helping me and reminding me what I was doing wrong and how I could fix it. Your extremely detailed approach and guidance helped me to improve from low 60s to high 70s. You also supported and encouraged me which helped me a lot – Rohan

Rohan’s mom (October & November 2020)

Hi! Elriena – thank you for the positive feedback and kind words. He is equally complimentary of you and how you teach. He is enjoying his lessons with you. We appreciate the effort you put into each lesson and your tailored approach to each child. Best wishes.

Rohan is most certainly benefiting from your lessons. Definitely more enthusiastic about the subject. His teacher let him know that he had the highest in the class for paper I. I only wish I knew of you earlier. Thank you for your commitment and dedication.

A 2021 Matric’s parents:

Deepak’s confidence in Afrikaans has grown since he started lessons with you. He also enjoyed chatting to you about his week and everything that was happening in his life. You were also supportive when we were ill, and this has meant a lot to us as a family. I will definitely recommend you to family and friends. Thank you!

Another 2021 Matric:

Thank you so much for all the help you’ve given me and for helping me improve my Afrikaans so much. I will definitely remember all the things you’ve taught me tomorrow when we write Paper 1 …

A 2021 Matric parent:

Mevrou Delport has been tutoring both my children over the last 7 years. She managed to create a focussed, calm, stress free learning environment for them, creating confidence and causing them to reach their full potential regarding Afrikaans. Being a teacher myself I appreciate her positive input into my children’s lives and will recommend you to others needing private tutoring. Again, thank you very much, Elriena.

2020 – December

A mom:

I am so extremely grateful that we were put in touch with Elriena Delport who my two kids’ Afrikaans tutor throughout their high school careers has been. She has been amazing and benefited them immensely with constant mark improvement. She is patient, gives them time and is an excellent, knowledgeable, experienced tutor that I would highly recommend.

A Grade 9 learner:

Mevrou Delport is patient, kind and has helped me a lot with my Afrikaans. She knows exactly what areas to focus on with each of her students and her years of teaching have benefited me hugely.

Her Grade 11 brother:

Mevrou Delport is passionate about her teaching and genuinely focussed on our successes. She gives us time and explains things very well and I am so grateful for all her help in pushing me to constantly improve my Afrikaans marks.

  • 2020 – February:

A grade 9 learner:

Dear Mevrou

Since I started coming here in Grade 5, I have learnt so much from you regarding Afrikaans as well as new life skills. You have taught me to stay calm, focused and believe in myself.

I want to list the most important advantages of attending your lessons as follows:

Since coming here, my marks have never gone down and are constantly improving. They raised significantly – from high 20’s to high 50’s.

I love the calm teaching atmosphere. I’m never rushed or confused or scared to ask questions and can move at my own pace.

I never get lost in any explanations given and time is never wasted.

You focus on all aspects of Afrikaans while guiding me to be the best I can at Afrikaans. I find it positive that you use multiple sources in order to give the best possible advice which also helps me at school. I also find it helpful that you often explain in depth the reasons why a grammar issue is the way it is – I remember better and can apply my knowledge better.

It’s very helpful that you point out what aspects the teachers are prone to test.

We often do revision using past tests and Mevrou will always explain until you understand. That helps a lot when tests and exams approach because there is no fear.

  • 2013:

At the end of grade five, my daughter Abby*chose Zulu as her second language subject. In August 2012 my daughter was in the middle of grade ten and not coping at all with the Zulu. She decided to swap from Zulu to Afrikaans.

This would require much work on her part as well as an excellent Afrikaans teacher. I went online to see what was available. I knew that we needed a dedicated “old school” teacher who taught and spoke traditional Afrikaans, not the “slang” Afrikaans which seems to have crept in at the schools and on television. Although Mrs Delport lived quite far away from us, I knew once I had spoken to her that this was the teacher I needed. Her knowledge of the system requirements, the various works being studied and her enthusiasm toward the challenge and student was contagious.

Now, just over a year down the line, my daughter is averaging 55% and working toward 60%+ for her year-end grade eleven exam.

I truly believe the success in this situation is due to Elriena Delport being such a dedicated, organised and committed teacher. She makes my daughter feel capable of achieving her goals and instils in her an enthusiasm to learn and achieve.

Another helpful factor is that, due to the far distance I was having to travel, we were able to split our lessons between visiting her premises as well as having one-on-one SKYPE sessions. It saved a lot of traveling time. It also allowed for us to keep going with the lessons even if we were out of town.

Thanks for everything you have done for Abby* this year! Regards. Nicole*

My dad contacted Mev. Delport in April 2011 when I was in Gr 10 and only had 40%. I was desperate to improve my Afrikaans marks. We started with lessons early in May of that year. Slowly I started to notice the improvement of my understanding Afrikaans, which, in turn improved my marks drastically. By the end of my Gr 11 year I got a distinction for the first time ever! I have just now received 83% for my matric prelim and am aiming for an A in my final. Mev. Delport is incredible – a 40% increase doesn’t just happen on its own!!! Thanks so much, Mevrou! Danielle*

Thank you so much for all that you have done to help me with Afrikaans. You are such a passionate teacher and I couldn’t ask for anything more. Thank you for all your patience and kindness. I appreciate everything you have done for me. Ashleigh.*

I am very sad that we are coming to the end of a long era! The girls have benefited greatly from your lessons and are very fond of you as well. Thank you so much for everything you have done for them! Gillian*

  • 2012:

Anne* felt more confident with her exams she has just done and has said that she really enjoys the way you teach, and you have helped her so much. We both can see that you are very dedicated to helping people like Anne*, for which we are truly grateful. We will be continuing with Anne’s lessons through her matric year and once again, want to say a BIG THANK YOU. Regards. Lisa*

Debbie* achieved a distinction for Afrikaans in her final exam this year for the first time ever, and she attributes it to your guidance and support. Thank you so much! Kind regards. Sandy*

  • 2011:

I cannot thank you enough for your positive, encouraging support for Mark* before his exams. When I brought him to you, he had given up on understanding Afrikaans. He was so afraid to meet you and he told me: “She’s going to see how stupid I am.” I thank you first and foremost for making him feel safe to learn and to try. His teacher told him today that he did pass! I am amazed. He has never managed to pass Afrikaans to date. His final promotion mark for Afrikaans is 34%. In his July exam he got 16% and for his November exam he got 36%, a great improvement with your help! Thank you so very much! Warm regards. Maria*

  • 2010:

Mrs Elriena Delport provided extra Afrikaans lessons to my daughter, Penelope*, during her Grade 11 (2009) and Matric (2010) year of school. She was able to improve her Afrikaans mark by 10% and passed her matric with exemption. Mrs Delport provides very structured tutoring that is geared around the school curriculum making it relevant and extremely useful to the student in the classroom environment as well. Thank you Elriena! Roxanne*

  • 2009:

Martha* had extra classes for Grade 11 and 12 with Mev. Delport and this started half into her Grade 11. She battled with Afrikaans when we moved from Durban to Johannesburg as the standard was higher at her new school and she was also just not grasping the basics. Martha* was relaxed and enjoyed her lessons as her confidence grew in the language. She even started to like the subject having had such a negative attitude to it over many years.
Mev. Delport is an excellent tutor with patience, kindness, interest and a good command of teaching the language. She was responsible for Martha passing Afrikaans that allowed her to achieve her University entrance. Martha* is even studying Linguistics and doing well.
I would recommend the extra tuition if a child is battling with a language due to early years of neglect and also to encourage a positive attitude. Thank you very much for your dedicated teaching that resulted in a successful pass! Kind regards. Cassandra*
